Field Notes — my latest zine

I have always wanted to do an eight-page zine, but could never figure out what the topic could possibly be.  Then I realized that I love to walk and listen to podcasts about creativity and get a lot of ideas which I promptly forget. So I decided to write down those ideas as I go. …read more…

Journals, Part Three

It’s been two years (and a bit) since I last talked about my journaling process. Not much has changed really. I usually use a 70-page wide-ruled notebook. When I was teaching, I would stock up on these during the summer back-to-school sales when you could get six or seven for a dollar. I still have …read more…

Digital Zines…

So…I did a thing. A while ago, I released an episode of the Silent Noise Project. I actually had really good notes for this one, and a lot of background information. Quite frankly, I had a lot more material than I could fit into a show, and I had a lot of material that shouldn’t have …read more…

Journals, Part Two

Yeah, I’m still keeping up with the journal(s). It’s a nice way to end the day, and it’s a good way to keep track of certain things. (Or, at least it would be if I ever bothered to go back and look through them. And I’m still using up old notebooks. Good lord, I have no …read more…

Journals

I started writing in a journal again a while back. I started doing this‒I don’t know, maybe 18 years ago, after reading Natalie Goldberg’s Writing Down the Bones. (Good book, that. I wish I still had my copy.) Following her example, I just wrote everything down in a standard 70-page school notebook. They go on …read more…

Spring Break in Leningrad

A short while ago, I bought one of those all-in-one printer/scanner/fax/copier machines. (An Epson Workforce 3640, to be precise.) I mostly wanted it because it has an ADF (automatic document feeder) that duplexes, meaning that I could quickly scan double-sided documents, which would considerably speed up scanning—no more putting the sheet in the scanner, scanning, …read more…

I am Patient Zero

Exactly  one week ago today, I felt a strange tickle in the back of my throat, a little irritation at the rear end of my nasal passages. The next day, what could possible be either a head cold or a chest cold. I slept okay that night, and then all hell broke loose. I woke …read more…

Everybody knows I have a writing utensil fetish. I came across some interesting sites the other day while searching for something else (I was trying to figure out how to create a limit in OpenOffice Math, actually). So I don’t forget them, here they are:

  • I Sell Pens — The name says it all: this guy sells all sorts of different pens, in all sorts of price ranges. The ink page alone is drool-worthy.
  • The Fountain Pen Network — I love fountain pens. This site has forums, a blog, a gallery (!), and a sales area.
  • Anderson Pens — An online pen store. All sorts of pens, all sorts of prices.

Enjoy!

Talent is cheaper than table salt. What separates the talented individual from the successful one is a lot of hard work.

this is a thing now…

Last spring, I wrote this. I was hoping that the thing that was going to be a thing would actually become a thing a month or two after I published that post. But it didn’t become a thing. Until now. This is why. I would like to say that I overthought parts of it, and …read more…
